There are so many decisions to make when planning a Disney World trip—where to eat, which activities to take part in (some are even free!), how to build a schedule that works for everyone in your family—but the biggest decision is definitely whether or not to stay on property.
What makes staying at a Disney resort so magical? We have 6 perks of staying at a Disney Resort that might surprise you!
You Get Extra Magic Hours!
If you can’t get enough of the parks then Extra Magic Hours are for you! You can enjoy additional hours at the parks that are exclusively open to people staying at the resorts (that means shorter lines and smaller crowds!).
Extra magic hours vary, so make sure you check the My Disney Experience app to see which parks are offering the additional hours during your stay. Here’s a quick way to check: On the homepage, scroll all the way down to see each park’s hours for that day. See more days by clicking “All Hours”.
These extra hours can be in the morning or in the evening depending on the day and park, so look closely when you are planning!
Early FastPass+ Access
Everyone wants shorter lines for their favorite rides, and Disney has figured out a great system with FastPass+. After buying your ticket you get to reserve a window of time to visit the rides and attractions you want.
Typically you get access to booking your FastPasses 30 days before your trip, but people staying at a Disney resort get to book theirs 60 days ahead! That is a lot more time to make sure you snag that guaranteed spot on Space Mountain!
Sure you’ve seen The Lion King, but have you watched the movie on a huge screen under the stars?
Disney resorts are filled with wonderful activities to fill your time with sweet and silly family memories. The resort outdoor movies are a family favorite since it is a perfect way to end a magical day. Poolside dance contests and games are fun for everyone, and many resorts even have playgrounds to let your littles run off some of their energy.
If you plan on staying at Ft. Wilderness, Chip and Dale’s Campfire Sing Along is a very special treat (especially when you roast marshmallows to eat during the movie that follows right after!). They also offer pony rides right on property (so cute!).
Included (Awesome) Transportation and Parking
Disney resort transportation is seriously convenient and fun for everyone. From the classic monorail to boats, busses, and the new Skyliner (which my kids practically count as a ride on its own), it is easy to get to the parks from any resort.
Complimentary MagicBands (They Really Are Like Magic)
With your personalized MagicBand, you can do everything from unlock your resort room door to pay for food and purchases (through your connected hotel account). Your MagicBand also lets you simply scan your way into the park with your connected ticket and onto rides during your FastPass times—one less thing for mom and dad to think keep track of on vacation!
Never Leaving the Disney Magic
True, lots of people see their accommodations as simply a place to lay their heads after a long day at the park, but there is something to be said about staying in the Disney bubble for your whole trip.
From the value resorts to the luxurious hotels, they each have their own distinct styles that are undeniably Disney. The famous Disney attention to detail is clear on each resort property, helping you stay immersed in the magic.
Cast members are always around to make your trip perfect, and they may even sprinkle a little of that famous pixie dust around! A cute mini princess might get a free cookie or FastPass…it’s been known to happen!
