FLVS Offers Innovative Learning Options and Resources

It’s a common question: can students learn and succeed in a virtual environment?

We have some excellent education options in Central Florida, allowing families to choose the path that feels right for them. All students crave connection and understanding and desire situations that make them feel positive about themselves. At Florida Virtual School® (FLVS®), students have the opportunity to not only navigate their education, but to establish great connections as well. For many Orlando families, FLVS provides the foundation to a successful school year for their kids’ growth both academically and personally.

Can students learn and succeed in a virtual environment?

As a statewide public school serving all Florida school districts and Florida students free of charge, FLVS provides innovative educational solutions that ensure each student’s unique learning needs are met. FLVS, the district and its schools are accredited by AdvancED and Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Council on Accreditation and School Improvement (SACS CASI). SACS CASI is an accrediting division of AdvancED. All teachers are state certified in the content areas they teach and have completed extensive professional development in virtual education.

What programs does FLVS offer?

FLVS Flex is available to public, private, charter, and homeschool students on a 365-day flexible calendar. Choose from innovative Kindergarten-5th grade options for elementary students or more than 150 free middle and high school courses with year-round enrollment and 24/7 course availability. Students may take one, or up to three courses at a time when also enrolled at a brick-and-mortar school. Homeschool students can complement their existing curriculum or choose to take a full course load, taking the guesswork out of scheduling, yet providing the flexibility to meet individual family needs. FLVS also offers a Full Time option where course work follows a fixed calendar schedule and diplomas are awarded to graduating seniors.

What about finding connection?

No matter what educational program a student is enrolled in, courses are available 24/7. Students only advance after demonstrating mastery of a concept, so this competency-based learning model gives students the chance for continuous improvement. Learning at one’s own individual pace is empowering; students do not compare themselves against other classmates. Yet all students interact with teachers and peers in live learning sessions and work on collaborative assignments.

FLVS also offers more than 30 online clubs so there are many student events and activities to participate in—even virtual and face-to-face field trips! What helps set FLVS apart is the core commitment to keep the student at the center of every decision made—from advancing personalized learning strategies to offering pioneering products and tools—FLVS is committed to helping students succeed in today’s world.

FLVS has proudly been helping students succeed since 1997, and to date, students have successfully completed more than 3.6 million semester enrollments. It’s the personalized, one-to-one attention that builds and supports academic growth.
