Earth Day is an annual event held on April 22 to show support for protecting our planet. The first Earth Day was held on April 22, 1970! It now includes a wide range of events coordinated globally by EarthDay.org including 1 billion people in more than 193 countries.
From getting outdoors for Earth Day to raising awareness on social media or switching to sustainable products there are so many fun and educational ways to embrace Earth Day this year!

Family Friendly Earth Day 2023 Events in Central Florida

Downtown Orlando

April 5 – Bike to Work Day 2024, SoDo Shopping Plaza, 32 West Crystal Lake Street, Orlando, 7 – 10AM, Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer will pedal into work on Friday, March 22, 2024, as part of the city’s annual tradition of hosting Bike to Work Day events. Riders will meet at 7 a.m. at the SoDo Shopping Plaza, then head out at 8 a.m. on a police-escorted group ride through the streets of downtown Orlando to City Hall. A Bike to Work Day celebration will be set up at City Hall Plaza beginning at 8 a.m. for downtown workers to learn more about the city’s bike projects and connect to local organizations, like Bike Walk Central Florida and the Orlando Bike Coalition.

April 13 – Earth Day Community Cleanup, 9 – 11AM, In honor of Earth Day, Rep. Anna V. Eskamani is joining forces with Rep. LaVon Bracy Davis as well as O-Town Compost, to host a community clean up! We’ll be taking action in our shared vision of a cleaner and more beautiful world, and you are invited, too! We’ll supply all the clean up tools you need, though we ask that you dress comfortably with closed-toe shoes. You’re encouraged to bring a refillable water bottle to stay hydrated and reduce plastic waste. We’ll be meeting in Orlando; please RSVP for exact address!

April 20 – Central Florida Earth Day, Lake Eola Park, 512 East Washington Street, Orlando, 10AM – 6PM, Central Florida Earth Day is brought to you by Vegetarians of Central Florida, a social and educational group for vegans and those aspiring to be in the Central Florida area. Central Florida Earth Day has a variety of activities and information for everyone! Music, speakers, massage, kid’s activities, and more will all be available to let you know what you can do to help your health, the animals, and the planet–while have fun doing it. Many fun and educational activities will be happening throughout the day at Central Florida Earth Day! Come out for the whole day and take in as much as you can.

April 22 – Ivanhoe Village Earth Day Clean Up, Ivanhoe Park Brewing Company, 1300 Alden Rd, Orlando, 5:30 – 7:30PM, Come join us for our Earth Day clean-up event alongside the Ivanhoe Village community. This event is great for anyone. Bring out your friends, family, or anyone you know who wants to help keep Orlando beautiful. Meet in front of Ivanhoe Park Brewing Company. All needed materials and supplies will be provided. Dress for a mess, as you will be working out in the elements.

April 26 – Earth Day Work Day, City Hall Plaza, 400 South Orange Avenue, Orlando, 11AM – 1PM, Join Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer and the City of Orlando’s Green Works team for Earth Day Work Day.  Downtown workers, residents and the local community are invited to enjoy their lunch outdoors at the City Hall Plaza where they will learn about sustainability and environmental stewardship. This event will feature music, games, prizes and other activities.

East Orlando

April 2 – How Does a Seed Grow?: Part of Our Earth Day Celebration, Alafaya Branch Library,12000 E. Colonial Drive, Orlando, 11AM – 12PM, With our little hands we can make a difference and care for our environment. Let’s read, learn and play through a fun celebration for Earth Day! Recommended for ages 3-5.

Apopka/Wekiva/Longwood

April 18 – Earth Day, Hooray!, North Orange Branch Library, 1211 E. Semoran Blvd., Apopka, 11AM – 12PM, It’s never too early to start learning about protecting our planet! Enjoy nature-friendly stories, crafts and activities with your little one. Recommended for toddlers and preschoolers.

Winter Garden/Ocoee/Clermont

April 20 – Earth Day Festival and Lake Clean Up, Lake Hiawatha, 450 12th Street, West of the Roundabout, Clermont, 7:30AM – 12PM, Join us for this free way to celebrate Earth Day as a community. Featuring a Lake Clean up with Environmental education, kids zone, DJ, and more!  Lake Cleanup will be from 7:30AM – 10:30AM. Earth Day Festival will be from 9:00AM – 12:00PM.

Winter Park/College Park/Baldwin Park

April 6 – City-wide Earth Month and Great American Cleanup, 9AM – 11PM, In honor of Earth Month and as a part of the nation-wide Great American Cleanup, volunteer to cleanup one of five locations city-wide: MLK Park, Ward Park, Dowtown Winter Park neighborhoods, Baldwin park, Howell Branch Preserve. Volunteer to clean up litter around the park (including surrounding neighborhood). Supplies (safety vests, gloves, and trash bags) will be provided. Water cooler provided – please bring a reusable bottle! Walking, biking and carpooling are encouraged. We will meet behind the Events Center at the Unity Bridge.

April 21 – College Park Cleanup, 11AM – 1PM, Please join College Park Main Street’s Design Committee for a College Park Cleanup day! The Committee works with members of the community and local groups to keep the Drive and surrounding areas clean, and we could use your help. Come alone, or bring a friend, family member, and neighbor and let’s work together to keep College Park looking its best!

Lake Mary/Sanford

April 20 – Earth Day – Recycle! Magazine Silhouette Art for Tweens (Ages 8-12), Northwest Branch Library, 580 Green Way Blvd, Lake Mary, 10 – 11:30AM, Celebrate Earth Day by creating art with old magazines! First, pick your favorite silhouette. Then clip colorful pieces from magazines to create a cool collage featuring the silhouette. All materials will be provided, but you are welcome to bring your own magazines for a personal touch. Pre-registration is required; space is limited. This program is FREE. 

Oveido/Winter Springs

April 13 – Spring Garden Swap, Central Branch Library, 215 N Oxford Rd, Casselberry, 1 – 4PM, Have too many plants? Relandscaping your garden? April 20 – Earth Day Celebration, Veteran’s Memorial Library, 810 13th Street, St Cloud, 10AM – 1PM, Join us and the Osceola County Library System to celebrate Earth Day. We will have local vendors, crafts for all ages, food trucks, the shred truck, eco presentations, face painting and more!

Mt. Dora

April 13 – Earth Day Gardening Event!, Nunan Butterfly Garden, 1995 N Donnelly St, Mount Dora, 10AM – 1PM, Two Earth Day events at once! Florida Native Plant Sale: 10:00 AM- 1:00 PM, Interested in hard-to-find Florida native plants? Attract pollinators and beautify your yard with Florida native plants, available for sale by the Lake Beautyberry Chapter of the Florida Native Plant Society. Plant & Seed Swap: 10:30 AM- 12:00 PM. Plants and seeds should be labeled and ready to swap. Please dig plants in advance of the swap so they can recover well, and don’t forget to bring bags or boxes for your new plants!
