Getting to know GK Keratin, and why we love it!

One of our (awesome) sponsors, In Style, is currently offering a GK keratin special for just $200 which includes the full sized, take-home shampoo and conditioner.  We’ve heard a lot about keratin treatments in beauty and fashion magazines, so we thought we’d go directly to the source and ask one of the In Style stylists, Chrissy, about what’s behind this game changing beauty trend.

OMB: What does keratin do exactly?

Chrissy: Keratin is the protein that makes up the outer layer of our skin as well as our hair and nails. So a keratin treatment is a system that puts this protein back into the hair. Think of it as a long-term deep conditioning treatment. There’s a lot of misconception when it comes to keratin treatments.

OMB: What misconceptions are you referring to?

Chrissy: We stylists are constantly hearing that keratin treatments are like a relaxer and are supposed to make your hair stick straight with no frizz. This simply isn’t the case. Keratin treatments will do a great job at reducing frizz, increasing manageability and shine, and will overall make your hair healthier. Relaxers can be detrimental to the hair whereas keratin treatments are quite beneficial.

OMB: What kind of keratin treatment does In Style offer?

Chrissy: We offer a hair taming system by the company Global Keratin. GK was founded in 2006 and is an industry leader in haircare systems. GK is the only haircare company to harness the technology of Juvexin.

OMB: I haven’t heard of that- what’s Juvexin?

Chrissy: Juvexin is derived from sheep wool (in a totally humane process of course.) The properties of Juvexin return hair to its natural state by repairing the hair shaft and providing long-term protection and conditioning benefits.

OMB: So what kind of results can I expect from a GK keratin treatment?

Chrissy: The results are reduced frizz, manageable and gorgeous looking hair! The GK hair taming system will reduce styling time by at least half, make it easier to cut, and will offer great moisturizing benefits. We offer two kinds- Curly and Resistant. Curly helps keep the natural curl while reducing frizz and increasing shine while the Resistant will help you achieve a smoother, sleeker look.

OMB: How long will this treatment last?

Chrissy: Results typically last 4-6 months. It depends on how well you take care of it. Utilizing the take-home shampoo and conditioner and following the “Dos and Don’ts” protocol we provide you will maximize the effectiveness of your treatment. The GK treatment is truly a “system” in that after the initial keratin treatment, the GK shampoo, conditioner and styling products continue to infuse Juvexin and keratin into your hair shaft for long-lasting, gorgeous hair.

  1. I let my daughter get keratin treatment a few years ago and it did last a long time andmade her hair MUCH easier to straighten when she wanted to wear it that way. It was still curly when she didn’t straighten it, but we could brush through it easier and it didn’t “grow” as much as it dried. Love keratin treatments!
Kristi, you should get someone to do a give-away of a keratin treatment. hint hint.
