Then as Sara’s children got older, her inventory grew to toddler-sized items, such as super hero capes, toys, finger puppets, shopping cart covers, and more!

History behind Just Duckie Blankies – Meet Sara
Just Duckie Blankies began in 2008, when I gave birth to my first son. I was working at the University of Iowa as a Spanish teacher, and there were six of us teachers (yes, six!!) expecting babies that year. As my due date approached, my aunt Jeannie (always the seamstress) stocked me up with tons and tons of adorable, personalized baby blankies. All of my friends took notice, and soon began to ask if she took orders. And so it began!
We started slow, with mainly blankies and burp cloths. Friends and family loved our products, with the extra large blankies (perfect for swaddling babies and for using as a playmat for bigger babies!) and the super absorbent burp cloths. Soon, the orders began piling up and we started making weekly trips to the fabric store to stock up.
I had my second son in 2010, and my daughter joined us in 2012. During that time, our products expanded as we began making products for my now-toddler boys (super hero capes, toys, finger puppets, shopping cart covers, and more!). With the addition of my daughter, Just Duckie added some new, girl-friendly gifts including tutus, headbands, princess capes and toys, mommy ‘n me scarf sets, the list goes on….
In 2013, I launched the Iowa City Moms Blog with my longtime friend Kaitlyn, and through that process I began to learn of more items that moms were looking for. Nursing covers, car seat canopies, ring sling carriers, boppy covers, crib sheets…the possibilities were endless, and the orders were pouring in!
We finally created a Facebook page and an Instagram account, and we were literally blown away at how fast it grew. This little “Baby” of ours has been with me since I became a mommy, and has now allowed me to quit my day job and focus solely on the moms blog and Just Duckie. My aunt Jeannie has since quit her in-home daycare and works from home on Just Duckie orders, as well as at the local embroidery shop. We are so lucky to work together, to create new items for our customers, and to have fun doing it!!
Our inventory has expanded even more in the past year, adding items for moms such as infinity scarves, aprons, luggage tags, tote bags, blanket scarves, and snap scarves. In the baby arena, we have added soft block toys, stuffed toys, muslin swaddle blankets, car seat blankets (fit inside the car seat with slots for the seat belt), and top knot baby hats. For the toddlers and older kids, we now offer larger toys, finger puppet sets, felt tic tac toe games, super hero capes and masks and cuffs, aprons, custom library/tote bags, big brother/big sister items, and of course, blankets!
As always, the majority of our items can be customized with names/birth dates/etc., and we pride ourselves on quick turnaround times on all orders. We love hand-making each and every one of your items, and we absolutely love seeing the pictures that you post and tag us in! Just Duckie has been quite the adventure, and we are excited to see what the future holds!
