Super SPF: Empowering Children To Stay Safe In The Sun

    Super SPF!
    Super SPF!

Now that summer has finally rolled around, you and your kids want to take advantage of every moment of sunshine that you can soak up. However, if you forgo sunscreen in your rush to get out the door, you risk the possibility of sunburn, skin cancer, early skin aging, and pigmentation. Rather than viewing sunscreen as an unpleasant chore that stands in between them and playing outside, it’s easier to teach your children that putting on sunscreen is part of an everyday normal routine, just like brushing your teeth.

In addition to wearing sunscreen, you and your family can protect your skin by wearing hats, sunglasses, and sun protective clothing such as swim shirts with SPF built into them. You can also play in the shade for relief from the sun’s rays.

Also, besides applying sunscreen every morning as part of your “getting ready” routine, slather it on thirty minutes before going outside to play so that it has time to soak into your skin. Once you’re outside, reapply sunscreen everything three hours and after sweating or swimming.

Be generous with your sunscreen application- it’s easy to remember to coat the arms, legs, and face, but don’t forget the ears, hands, feet, lips, and behind the neck.

However you choose to enjoy the summer sunshine, it’s important to make sunscreen a part of your recipe for summer fun. Grab a bottle and get outside!
