Taking Better Care of Your Eyes as a Mom


Our eyesight almost always gets worse as we age, but sometimes it’s hard to find the time to care for our vision. If you’ve recently found out you need glasses or have noticed your eyes getting weaker, it could be time to take action. While you probably always put your children’s needs first, you need to think about your own eye health, otherwise, you won’t be able to care for your kiddos in quite the same way.

Here are some tips that will help you to keep your eyes in top shape:

Keep your glasses safe

It can be hard to take good care of our things as moms. It often feels like everything we own will end up with sticky fingers all over it, but for the most part, we take this in our stride. However, if you wear glasses, it’s important to keep these safe and out of harm’s way. If your glasses have been broken before, you might want to consider investing in a hard-wearing case that you can keep out of sight. Reduce your screen time

If your children love going on their iPad, try to set time limits and put your own phone away as well. Putting away devices might even encourage you to get out and about more for some exercise!

Get enough sleep

It can be really hard to get a decent night’s sleep when your children are very young, but as they get older you need to be thinking more about your shut-eye. Tired eyes can make your vision blurry and may even give you a headache if your sleepless nights go on for a long period of time. Try to go to sleep earlier and stick to a routine even on the weekends. You wouldn’t let your children stay up past their bedtime, so try and be a bit stricter with yourself too.

Improve your diet

Did you know your diet has as much to do with eye health as your habits? Eating nutritious foods with plenty of vitamins will help your eyes to stay healthy. Foods that are particularly good for your eyes include oily fish with omegas 3, 6, and 9, leafy greens like kale and spinach, and sweet potatoes. In general, you should aim for a balanced diet, but try to include some eye-specific superfoods on a regular basis if you a very worried about your vision.
