An apple a day keeps the doctor away, right? At least that is the old wives tale. My boys each eat about 2 apples a day…they absolutely love them! I knew some of the benefits to eating apples, but I wanted to learn more being that they eat so many. Check out the history behind the saying and more health benefits of eating an apple a day!

The history of “An apple a day keeps the doctor away.”:

The original phrase was โ€˜Eat an apple on going to bed, and youโ€™ll keep the doctor from earning his bread.’ In the 19th century and early 20th, the phrase evolved to โ€œan apple a day, no doctor to payโ€ and โ€œan apple a day sends the doctor away.โ€ The phrasing now commonly used, “An apple a day keeps the doctor away” was first recorded in 1922. Apples also pops up in traditional Ayurvedic medicine, dating back about 1,500 years in southern Asia.ย
