We are proud to partner with Kids R Kids Avalon Park to bring relevant content to Central Florida families!

With the holidays in full swing, there’s no better time to help your children recognize the value of giving. Of course, there is value in giving back to your community or those less fortunate year-round, but if there’s only one month that you’re able to do so, December may be prime time. It’s important to emphasize to little ones that helping and “giving” don’t always have to mean money. Time and volunteering are always a great way to support the spirit of giving and also feel connected to your local community.

Here are a few great ways to naturally teach the spirit of giving in your home from our friends at Kids R Kids Learning Academy of Avalon Park. Encouraging these lessons at home can help instill a giving attitude this month and beyond!

Do you know if any of your neighbors are struggling? Whether that’s financially, emotionally, or health-wise, there may be something to do to make them smile. Give a gift, bake some treats, write a letter, or even give them a blanket to feel a bit cozier this holiday season. Even the smallest gestures can go a long way. Maybe you’re close to your neighbors already, if not, this is a great opportunity to get to know them and spread some holiday cheer.

Learning About Cultures

It’s easy to get swept away in your own winter holiday, and rightfully so because it’s filled with joy for your family. But your child may make a classmate’s day if they take an interest in their holiday, especially if it’s a bit different from your family’s. Next time you’re at the library, try to pick up a story centered around a different holiday than your own!

Donate to a Local Drive Supporting Others

Many organizations have a drive during the holidays. Like our blanket drive, you can likely find others through your local school or church, boy or girl scout troop, rotary or kiwanis club, or at local stores! If you’re not seeing any, give it a quick Google search, and you’re likely to find several! Let your kids get involved in choosing what they want to support and see if they have any special contributions they’d like to make. This is also a great way to cycle through toys and teach your kids the value of sharing.

Giving doesn’t always have to be monetary. Everyday giving, as simple as letting someone go ahead of you in line at the grocery store, is a very small act that can show empathy. Take some time to volunteer at a local food bank or homeless organization if you have extra time. Your kids will likely love it and may even ask to do it throughout the year!

Instill Giving in Your Child Year-Round Through School

The Kids R Kids VPK program sets your child up for success in kindergarten and beyond. Your kids can participate in hands-on activities and learn about the value of giving back to your community and those less fortunate. Kids R Kids prioritizes fun – especially in the classroom – and provides a welcoming and engaging learning environment.
