As a kid, I went camping all the time with my grandparents and cousins. It was our “summer thing”. Camping trips promote family bonding and I have so many fond memories of making s’mores, exploring new places and having tick checks (my grandmother was adamant about checking us for ticks every time we played outside!) We never really camped in tents, so I guess we were “glamping” and I just never realized it.
We have camped at lots of places throughout Florida with Florida Caverns State Park being one of our favorites. But one thing that would have made our camping trips a bit easier would have been some camping tips and tricks!

5-Minute Craftsโ€™ has some of the best camping tips and tricks:

The bugs are NO JOKE when camping…
Tired of fighting off mosquitos and other insects on your camping trips? Try this natural bug repellent hack! Before leaving for your trip, pack some mint leaves in your bag. Once you have a fire going, add a few mint leaves at a time to the flames. The smell of burning mint will keep mosquitos and other insects away!

If you’ve ever struggled to get the s’mores going…

If you find yourself struggling to start/maintain a fire on your camping trip, give this egg carton hack a try. Simply take an empty egg carton and add charcoal into each slot. Place the egg carton onto your fire food and light with a match. You will find that the carton catches fire easily, and it is maintained by the charcoal within. Give it a try on your next camping trip!

Wet sneakers are the worst!

While camping, there is a good chance your shoes will get dirty and muddy at some point throughout the trip. To prevent that from happening, try this DIY waterproof sneaker trick. Take a candle stick and rub the wax it on your sneakers, coating the entire shoe. Next, leave it in the sun to heat up. Once the wax has melted onto the shoe, it will form a protective coating, preventing your sneakers from getting wet!
If you are planning a trip to any of the Florida State Parks, be sure to check out how you can visit 17 state parks in 7 days! I know I am totally inspired to try this with my kids! And did you hear that you can use your library card to get into Florida state parks??
