I suppose it should come as no surprise that this is my first most anticipated read of the year. If you’ve been reading my book reviews for a while, you know that no author can make me laugh like Meghan. The banter between her characters is second to none and they always seem to get themselves into the most ridiculous situations.
This is the second in her Almond Bay series, but you don’t have to read the first book in the series, The Way I Hate Him, before this one. But I will say that knowing Hattie and Hayes’ story only adds to seeing them in this book. This book also has a TON of cameos of characters from Meghan’s other books, so if you’ve read a good amount of her backlist, be prepared to see some of your favorites!
Much like The Way I Hate Him, this book deals with some heavier topics, mostly the death of Aubree’s sister and how that grief has impacted her life. Aubree has spent the months after her sister’s death keeping it all together. She was working two jobs in attempt to keep her sister’s dreams for their family and the town afloat. The fact that she’s been unable to really process her grief has made her into a bit of a grump and she’s closed herself off from the people of Almond Bay. Meghan treats Aubree’s grief with so much care and her transformation is beautiful to watch.
I was given an early copy of the book by Meghan and her team and I am so grateful to be among the first to read her work. My review and thoughts on the book are 100% my own.
The Reason I Married Him Summary:
Aubree Rowley is devoted to keeping her sister’s farm afloat. She’s doing it all to keep it together and is slowly losing herself. When the man who owns the second half of her farm shows up, she’s upset and sure that he is there to take away this last piece of her sister. But Wyatt could care less about the farm land that he owns and wants Aubree to have it… in exchange for marrying her. Turns out Wyatt’s family cabin is set to go to a cousin who has plans to bulldoze Wyatt’s beloved cabin. If Wyatt can get married before the cousin, the cabin is his. Aubree eventually agrees to the plan and through a series of events, including an over the top proposal that had me cackling at the bus stop (sorry to my neighbors who I worried with my outburst), these two discover that opening yourself to someone can happen slowly and unexpectedly.
